We Bought a House!

We bought a house in the burbs! It all happened a few years earlier than we had planned, but like many people, the pandemic had us longing for more space for our family.

It’s certainly bittersweet. We are excited to be closer to my family (I grew up outside of Chicago), have a backyard with a play-set for our son, and enjoy the conveniences of suburban life. My husband is especially excited about the peace and quiet of our new neighborhood.

I am definitely more of a city person and we contemplated raising kids downtown. Chicago has so much to offer -- even for families! However, we both agreed moving to a nearby suburb before Theo started school would be best for our family. Because we haven’t been able to take advantage of all that Chicago has to offer during the pandemic, I think right now is an easier time to make this move from an emotional standpoint.

I’m excited for this next chapter! At the same time, there are a million things I will miss about living in the heart of downtown Chicago. One of the things I will miss the most are the city views. Chicago's skyline is incredible! Nearly everyday, we go for walks and soak in the architecture, public art, riverwalk, and the energy of the city. The buzz of the city is hard to beat too.

It helps that our new house is walking distance to a train downtown and we are only a 25 minute drive downtown (when traffic isn’t a nightmare).

Closing day with our agent Jen Fay and her assistant Elliot.

I can’t write this post without giving a huge thank you to our real estate agent, Jen Fay, who is also my cousin. She knocked it out of the park! Jen is incredibly knowledgeable, professional, and a true hustler! Kam and I were looking for our forever home. We wanted to work with the best agent to not only find us that home, but get us a great deal. We are so grateful we chose Jen and we would highly recommend her. Shoutout to her assistant Elliot too for going above and beyond to keep us organized and prepared for our big move!

Thanks for reading along! We are excited for this next chapter!

Chicago museums are starting to reopen as we enter Chicago museums are starting to reopen as we enter stage four! 🙌 This photo was taken at @msichicago not long before lockdown. I was so happy to show Theo some of Chicago’s gems! 💎 Personally, I won’t be rushing back to anything indoors, but I’m glad to see things reopening and hope it can be done safely. By the way, @msichicago is expected to reopen this summer and you can get tickets now for @shedd_aquarium and @lincolnparkzoo. 🦥 What will you do now that we’re in stage four?

Today is the first time I left my baby with a sitter and the longest time I have been away from him. 😭 He is in good hands though. Poor guy hardly knows anyone but Kam and me. We kept him to ourselves the first 8 weeks of his life because we were scared of the flu. Then as soon as we felt ready to share him, Coronavirus hit! 🤦‍♀️

The case involved Mildred and Richard Loving who were arrested in Virginia for their interracial marriage.
