After watching the documentary, The Human Experiment and reading several news articles about the devastating effects of toxic chemicals found in everyday products, I started to make some changes at home. Like many people, I have become attached to certain products and brands, so it's not easy to switch to healthier options.
Fortunately, there are more options on the market since awareness is growing about the use of harsh chemicals in household products such as makeup, cleaners, plastics and more. Here are five brands I'm using right now that don't use harsh chemicals like parabens and sulfate.
Five Non-Toxic Brands I'm Using Right Now
Mineral Fusion
Finding paraben- free and sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner that leaves my hair feeling clean, soft, and silky took a lot of trial and error. Mineral Fusion's shampoo and conditioner has been the best I've found, and I have been using the brand for about a year now. Mineral Fusion is 100% vegan, gluten-free, sulfate-free, cruelty-free, and paraben-free. Many "non-toxic" shampoos and conditioners that I tried did not lather well or couldn't untangle my long hair. However, Mineral Fusion does the trick! They also have a line of cosmetics.
Burt's Bees
I've been a longtime user of Burt's Bees chapstick, but with my effort to use more clean products, I've started using their other products too like the Ginger and Citrus body wash. It smells so good! Plus, it features a plant-based cleaning complex with no parabens, phthalates, petrolatum, or SLS. I also love their facial wipes for removing makeup.
Mrs. Meyers
Mrs. Meyers offers products with plant-derived ingredients that are free from phthalates, parabens, DEA and sulfate. I buy the hand soap and detergent from Amazon. The hand soap is formulated with olive oil and aloe vera, and my favorite scents are Lavender and Lemon Verbena.
Honest Company
Jessica Alba created the Honest Company which offers non-toxic products for the family and home. Many moms have become Honest Company brand loyalists because the products were designed to be free from harsh chemicals and safe for families. I use many of the cleaning products including the glass and window cleaner.
LOLA
Have you ever wondered what's in your feminine products? I hadn't! But when Lola reached out to me about trying their 100% organic cotton tampons, I was intrigued. Tampons were something I hadn't thought about in my effort to detoxify my life, so I welcomed the opportunity to try their feminine products which are free of toxins, dyes, and synthetic additives.
Please let me know if you've had success with any non-toxic products! I'd love to hear what you've tried. I plan to swap out more of my makeup in the coming months too, so any recommendation on cosmetics are welcome!
By the way, the pink jumpsuit I am wearing below is from a Chicago fashion line, Meeka Meditation, and is available online. These jumpsuits are my go-to pieces to wear around the house right now. They are incredibly comfortable and still look put together.
