Gender Reveal & Old Wives Tales

As soon as I got pregnant, I started imaging life with our little baby. I was dying to know the gender. Fortunately, we could find out the gender with a blood test at my doctor's office at only 10 weeks.

Honestly, I couldn't wait! I begin looking into old wives tales to better guess if our baby was a boy or girl. (Yeah, I know they are just for fun! But you can see how my doctor's results measured up to the old wives tales results.

At the end of this post, I'll share with you our baby's gender!

Old Wives Tales to Determine Baby's Gender

These are some of the old wive's tales I found online or heard about through friends. I thought the Ramsey Theory was the most interesting. It is based on an ultrasound around 6- 8 weeks and looks at the placement of the placenta as an indication of the baby's gender. Here's how I fared with some of the old wive's tales.

Breakouts?

Not terribly (boy).

Heartbeat rate?

Fast (girl).

Ring test over stomach?

Circles (girl).

Carrying high or low?

Low (boy).

Major nausea?

Thankfully, no (boy).

Chinese calendar?

Boy.

Mood changes?

Not so much (boy).

Ramsey Theory

Boy.

Score: 6 points for boy and only two for girl.

Gender Reveal Party

My mom invited our family over so we could reveal the baby's gender with a cake cutting. None of us knew the gender in advance. She got the cake made at a local bakery, decorated with lots of pink and blue treats, and my aunt even designed the cutest pink and blue elephants and little peanut characters for decor. I was so touched!

There were around 25 family members (including my friend Meghan who is basically family) who all gathered at our house and more family members tuning in via FaceTime to find out if our baby would be a boy or girl. It was really sweet. I'm so thankful to bring my baby into such a tight-knit, loving, extended family.

So let's get on to the reveal... When we cut the cake, we saw the frosting was blue! We are having a baby BOY! We cannot wait to meet our little man!

In case you missed it, you can about my first trimester or our Babymoon to South Lake Tahoe.

I was so happy to show Theo some of Chicago’s gems! 💎 Personally, I won’t be rushing back to anything indoors, but I’m glad to see things reopening and hope it can be done safely. By the way, @msichicago is expected to reopen this summer and you can get tickets now for @shedd_aquarium and @lincolnparkzoo. 🦥 What will you do now that we’re in stage four?

Today is the first time I left my baby with a sitter and the longest time I have been away from him. 😭 He is in good hands though. Poor guy hardly knows anyone but Kam and me. We kept him to ourselves the first 8 weeks of his life because we were scared of the flu. Then as soon as we felt ready to share him, Coronavirus hit! 🤦‍♀️
