Watch the video above to hear from Credo’s chief operating officer about the clean beauty shop now open in Chicago.
Clean Beauty Boutique Opens in Chicago
The clean beauty movement is building momentum as information about the health hazards in everyday products becomes prevalent. Still, it’s challenging to find non-toxic beauty products. That’s because it’s legal for companies to put products on the shelves without warning consumers about the potential health hazards of the ingredients used.
Credo, a key player in the clean beauty scene, has an answer, and it’s bringing its natural beauty products to Chicago. This summer, The San Francisco-based company opened a store in Bucktown at 1659 N Damen Ave. The company aims to create a destination where women can shop for efficacious beauty products without worrying that the ingredients will harm them.
“Credo is a place where we are looking to change the way women think about what they are putting on their bodies,” says Annie Jackson, Credo Chief Operating Officer who came to Chicago for the store’s grand opening event.
Credo offers more than 100 clean beauty brands. At the Chicago location, you can find some local brands such as a brush line from celebrity makeup artist, Jenny Patinkin (who, by the way, wrote this book). You can also get waxing services, makeup applications, and facials. There’s even a dedicated spa room for treatments that use products from Tata Harper’s popular skincare line.
Jackson says the health-conscious people of Bucktown are ready for a concept like Credo.
“Bucktown really spoke to us because it seems like a progressive community. We really like to enter communities where it’s a conscious customer,” explains Jackson. “They are really engaged in the space and already living a healthy lifestyle.”
My Transition to Clean Beauty
Personally, I’m stoked about the opening of Credo in Chicago! I’ve been replacing my conventional “empties” with non-toxic, safe alternatives. So far, I’ve swapped out my shower products, skincare products, and lipstick for clean products. The one product that isn’t going so well is deodorant. I’ve tried several kinds of deodorant, but the results literally stink!
I figured as the COO of Credo, Jackson must know a safe and effective deodorant brand, so I had to ask her during our interview! This is the clean beauty deodorant brand the executive swears by.
Clean products (courtesy of Credo) I’m digging:
- Kosas: lipstick in Rosewater
- Herbivore Botanicals: Jasmine Green Tea Balancing Toner
- Vapour: Aura Classic Multi-Use (lips/cheeks/eyes) in Eros
Have you tried any clean beauty products? I’d love to hear your favorites!
